Disney Planet Challenge

Disney has just announced a “Planet Challenge” contest for classrooms, grades 3-8 (there is a category for grades 3-5 and another one for grades 6-8).  Classrooms form a team and work together to solve a challenge that affects our planet.  The deadline for registration is December 23, 2011 so you have to sign up quickly.  However, you have until Feb. 15, 2012 to complete the project.

You don’t have to attack this challenge alone.  Disney has teamed up with two different groups to get you the support you need–first of all, they’ve partnered with UL scientists, who you can connect with and they’ll help you out.  Second, Disney has teamed up with donorschoose.org for funding for you.  If you’re not familiar with Donors Choose, you should be…they are an amazing source of funding for classroom materials (I’ve received over $15,000 in classroom lab equipment, fieldtrips, etc. in three years).  You don’t even have to scrounge for the funds for this project–just follow the directions on Disney’s Planet Challenge site and you can get up to $500 for the materials for your project (the website says you’ll have it within a week!!).

Good luck–it sounds like a really fun project!
